Founded as a military order of elite warriors in 1119 AD, the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Jerusalem, or Templars, were knighted as protectors of Christianity. They were highly trained, well equipped, highly motivated, and forbidden from retreating in battle
